Spotlight on Learning: Becoming Agents of Change conference

The Literacy Coalition has partnered with the Ontario Literacy Coalition and other Eastern Coalitions to organize the Spotlight on Learning: Becoming Agents of Change conference. This conference is scheduled for October 18-20, 2010 at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto.

If you would like to apply for a subsidy you must complete and submit the Subsidy Request Form to the Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick by Friday, July 23, 2010.

Spots will be filled on a first come first served basis.

Subsidy requests must be approved prior to registering for the conference.

In today’s world, technology skills are becoming more necessary to thrive at work and at home.

This International Adult Learners’ Week take the Learning Challenge and find new ways to use technology to bring more learning into your life.

  • Sign up for a computer course.
  • Learn to operate a new machine at work.
  • Add to a blog, Facebook, Twitter or other social media.
  • Read the instructions for your camera or cell phone.
  • Take the time to teach someone a new technical skill.

Post videos, photos or stories about your experiences taking the challenge on Facebook (search: International Adult Learners' Week in Canada).

Inspire others to learn by telling your own story.

This is a reminder to apply for the 2009 PGI funds. The Literacy Coalition of NB ltd. is planning to distribute the 2009 PGI funds in two installments. The largest portion of the funding will be distributed at the end of January 2010. The second portion of the funding is to be distributed at the end of April. We will be considering both small and large projects. Please remember to give details as to how the funds will be spent and that we require a report on how the funds were used. We will be creating a video of the projects to show our sponsors.

The application deadline is set for January 22, 2010.

Family Literacy Day (FLD)
The Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick Ltd. (LCNB), in partnership with ABC CANADA and the Sutherland Honda. is celebrating Family Literacy Day in Fredericton by inviting the public to participate in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record: for “most children reading with an adult – multiple locations.” The event will take place at the Honda dealership at 911 Hanwell Road, from 10:00am‐12:00pm on Saturday, January 24th.

On November 6th, 2008 will be the 20th anniversary of the coalition, we will be holding a public launch at the Old Government House from 11 to 2 on the same morning. Everyone is welcome to this launch.

Also, our annual AGM meeting will be held at St. Ann's Anglican Church in West Sackville on the 16th of October, 2008.

On June 24-25, 2008, a Family Literacy Forum brought family literacy stakeholders together in Fredericton to develop a collaborative strategic framework to move Family Literacy forward in New Brunswick.
